United Arab Emirates New Perfume Kingdom
There are more fragrances around to day than there have ever been before. Some good, some bad, some old, some new. Perfume fragrances have been sourced from every continent on earth but the biggest markets tend to be in the west. Most sales have been dominated by the west, where image consciousness and disposal income is more abundant. Change however, may be around the corner. Those companies who are heavily invested in the market have been heading towards the Arab States however, as there have been some very promising sales of late
There is healthy progression in the market currently, with a predicted gross worth of approximately $40 billion by 2015. The Arabian Peninsula is currently responsible for around $270 million of this but the rate of growth is much higher than other countries. For example, total sales last year were up around 15 percent.
The staggering growth in the market, shared with Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, has been put down to increased money in the area and a differing way of life. The Arab States have also been practitioners of using fragrances. In Saudi Arabia for example, around 85% of women use scents every day. However, the types of fragrance have changed, with more exclusive women’s perfume names replacing the more traditional products. Also, men are increasingly using scents to express themselves and they are purchasing a much wider range of fragrances for themselves.
This growth in the market has attracted some big name companies and has seen the emergence of a number of trade shows. Beautyworld is the next large event to take place in the Middle East, which happens to be among the top 4 biggest shows of its kind. This year there are an amazing 870 exhibitors, displaying around 1,600 brands – an increase of 18% on last year. Work is already being carries out on next years show as organisers predict even greater growth in the near future
